Hello out there,
We have had a couple exciting days. For starters, we crossed a milestone of 100 patients the other day (today we clocked out at 112). We were hoping to get 120 in total and it looks like we may be able to reach that goal (though now I secretly want 150).
Here is an interesting story:
The other morning at breakfast, we were sitting in the hotel before going to the hospital at around 630am. A man walked past wearing dirty old pants and had a thick white beard and looked like he had been traveling for about 20 years. He picked up a newspaper and I said to him "I can imagine what the headlines are" (refering to recent events in Egypt which at that time was occupying every corner of news media).
He said to us (in a north american accent) "Well I am curious what the impact will be on Israel because I was recently in Tel Aviv" to which we said "that is where we are from"
it turns out, he is also Canadian (from the west coast) and does volunteer work in Ethiopia. He has been sponsoring a family and looking after them (I'm not sure how he made the connection to them, but whatever). The father of the family has a nasty road accident and needed surgery, his daughter has epilepsy (controlled with medication) and his other daughter had major heart surgery in Israel about 10 years ago.
In the end, the little girl who had heart surgery was actually treated by SACH and had not been reached by the doctors we are working with to do follow up. We asked him to bring her today and we did our little follow up on her. It was all very exciting that we managed to track down our own patient in Ethiopia. We were not expecting it. It was very serendipitous.
Anyway, just thought I would share this story because we enjoyed it.
In other news, we had a short day today. I was pretty exhausted myself and I guess the girls were too because we all went back to the hotel and slept for about 3 hours. We just had a bite to eat and we are back at the hotel now planning on just doing some reading and hitting the hay.
ciao for now

Dad here-an interesting story-amazing how people connect when away from their homes. Very glad you all three sensibly took it a bit easier. I forgot to tell you that in the Ethiopian restaurant they served smoking frankinsence with the coffee. Pungent but interesting. My day is pretty straightforward but I will go home early to watch the Barcelona-Arsenal match.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow my big adventure-going to Costco with Em (mum won't go).
Best to all love Dad.
small world, typical to the Jewish world, but defenetly interesting!! It probably meant to be!! finally the days are passing for us and it is just 7 more days till you return!! keep working, enjoying and experiencing. The first time experience never returns!!
