The beginning

So we just set up this little blog space. Basically, it is going to be 'no frills' until we get the hang of it. Just straight up info. Eventually, we'll try to get some stuff onto it...

As for Ethiopia, here is where we're at:

We (Liad, Liora and Will) are doing a project for Save a Child's Heart. The project entails doing a medical and social follow up on cardiac patients who were brought to Israel for heart surgery since 1995. Many of these children (now adults) have lost contact with the organization so we are going to be doing a lot of digging go track down where they are.

The medical follow up is to assess the effectiveness of the heart surgeries in terms of how healthy the patients are from a cardiac point of view. Can they do exercise? Do they have children of their own? are they working etc.

The social follow up is to reflect on their experiences in Israel. How were they treated, did they have a hard time being here? Did they want to stay?

We are taking with us an echo machine, a laptop and a whole bunch of medication for our inevitable bouts of diarrhea. Can't wait.

We are heading off tomorrow morning (Feb 3) and flying via Istanbul. Assuming we do not get delayed, we should be in Addis by the late evening. We will go straight to hotel (mum) and will not speak to anyone along the way (also, mum). We will not drink water, take public transport or trust anyone but each other (mum).

I (Will) am here with Liad (Liad) right now. We are about to go pack. Hopefully you (You) will all keep in touch with us over the next couple weeks and follow our every move.

Liora is meeting us in Addis tomorrow. She has been there already for a couple weeks and is now fluent in Amharic and is one with the locals. She will be our tour guide. Once we are all reunited, we will have to sit and figure out how the hell we are going to achieve our goals... should be interesting.

Lots of love from Israel,

Will, Liad and soon-to-be Liora.
