Sorry for the overlap with information. I guess we are all posting on the same blog. At least you can all see the difference in our experiences.
Today has been very interesting. We made it to the hotel last night. We were met at the airport by a car from the children't heart fund of Ethiopia. They brought us and our bags to the hotel in the downtown area of the city. We were treated like royalty. It was very nice. They had signs with our names at the airport and everything.
This morning, we had a quick breakfast near the hotel and met an Israeli who moved here a few years ago. He fell in love with the country, as many people do, and has been living here ever since. He speaks the language (amharic) fluently and was really helpful in terms of planning and seeing things. We are going to try to squeeze in some short day trips if we can.
We saw the Children's heart Fund building. It is fantastic. Brand new and just sparkling. It has beautiful wards, operating rooms, cath labs and perhaps most importantly for us, bathrooms! thank god. So we will know where to use bathrooms from now on. We were met at the hospital by the director of the hospital and the staff that we will be working with. Everyone was very friendly.
Afterwards, we went to get a SIM card for my phone. For anyone wanting to reach us, you can dial +251 922 334942. We did a lot of walking today so we are pretty wiped.
This evening, Liad and I went for dinner to a traditional Ethiopian restaurant with dancing and great food. Assuming we don't get diarrhea, it was a great experience and we took some pictures and also some video. Liora had a rough night yesterday and wasn't feeling up to joining us. Interestingly, we were asking someone about the restaurant at the hotel and a nice man was telling us all about it. He then offered to drive us there, which we accepted. Turns out, he was the manager of the hotel and said he would like to offer a discount to us because of the good work we are doing. Very serendipitous.
So that is all for now. We are gonna call it a night for now. Tomorrow we have a lot planned and we will hopefully leave the city on Sunday to explore another area.
